David M. Wirtz, Esq. has been representing management in the public and private sectors for 25 years.  A Principal at GG&H, he enhances the firm’s expertise in New York employment and labor laws, and adds a day-to-day familiarity with New York’s federal and state courts and administrative tribunals.  Mr. Wirtz also provides state-of-the-art counseling in every aspect of employment and labor law.  In addition, he has an exceptional success record on cases that have gone to trial or hearing -- and, his settlement record includes agreements by plaintiffs to pay defendants.

Mr. Wirtz has built his reputation on meticulous service, as well as the savvy, speed and sophistication that come with many years of practice devoted exclusively to providing employment law services to management.  He regularly assists human resource professionals in achieving full compliance with all federal, state and local labor and employment laws, on a day-to-day basis, and in extraordinary circumstances, such as RIFs.  Mr. Wirtz also serves as chief negotiator in labor negotiations and in providing contract compliance counseling for unionized public and private sector employers.  In addition, he represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board and the New York State Public Employment Relations Board in connection with union organizing drives.

He is a contributor to the NYS Bar Association's treatise entitled “Public Sector Labor and Employment Law.”   Mr. Wirtz is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of NY; a member of both the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section and the Committee on Employment and Labor Relations of the NYS Bar Association; and a member of the Section on Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association.

An honors graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Wirtz graduated from Cornell University Law School in 1974.  He has been an Adjunct Professor at Cardozo Law School since 1992.  He is known as a “lawyer’s lawyer” and frequently lectures to other employment attorneys and in-house counsel.

Prior to joining GG&H, Mr. Wirtz was a partner at Rains & Pogrebin, P.C., a labor and employment specialty firm with offices on Long Island and in Manhattan.  From 1978 to 1982 he served as General Counsel of the New York City Public Schools.
