John D. Canoni is a partner in Nixon Peabody LLP, where he is the Chair of the Labor and Employee Benefits Group.

Mr. Canoni received his B.A., cum laude, at Amherst College, and his LL.B at Yale Law School.

Mr. Canoni handles matters in all labor and employment law areas ranging from the traditional (National Labor Relations Board matters, contract negotiations, and arbitrations) to the “hot new issues" (employment discrimination, FMLA, ADA, AIDS, wrongful discharge, WARN, etc.). He represents major health care, transportation, commercial, not-for-profit, media, insurance, utility, and construction companies. He represents management exclusively.

Mr. Canoni is the editor of the firms's Employment Law Alert® and is listed in Best Lawyers in America, 1999-2000.

Mr. Canoni is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the U.S. Supreme Court and the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, and District of Columbia Circuit Courts and is a member of the New York State Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section (past Section Chair, EEO Committee Chair and House of Delegates member and member of Executive and ADR Committees), the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section (past member of Antitrust Exemptions, EEO, Labor Arbitration, Prepaid Legal Services and Pension and Welfare Committees), and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (past member of Labor and Employment, Individual Rights, Lectures and Sex and Law Committees).
